Bassinthegrass on a budget

Tickets to People's Choice BASSINTHEGRASS start at just $75 (that’s $7.50 an hour!), and that’s just the start. There are so many things to see and do in the Top End for free or on the cheap.

If you’re in Darwin for the festival and on a budget, there are plenty of ways to experience this awesome part of Oz without breaking the bank.

Do go chasing waterfalls (and waterholes)

Berry Springs Nature Park and Litchfield National Park are just some of the incredible free swimming spots Darwinites have on their doorstep.

Just 47km south of Darwin, Berry Springs is the perfect place to chill out with three picturesque pools, shady areas and a lush looped walking track. Don’t forgot to pack a picnic!

A little further down the road, Litchfield National Park is a must-do while you’re in the Top End. Relax and unwind for the day at one of the park’s many swimming spots, such as Wangi Falls, Florence Falls and Buley Rockhole.

And the best part? Entry is free.

Darwin is so easy to get around, and one of the best ways to explore the city is on a deadly treadly.

The Territory’s capital is home to around 70km of cycling paths, many of which are by the sea and lined with lush tropical palms.

Local tip: Cycle the Nightcliff Foreshore at dusk. Not only will you be treated to a spectacular sunset but there are often food vans parked up serving seriously delicious (and cheap!) eats.

Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory

Embrace your inner historian

If you’re a bit of a history buff, you’ve come to the right place!

The Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory is the place to be if you want to immerse yourself in Darwin’s history and culture… and the best part? It’s free to enter.

While you’re brushing up on the region’s incredible history, make sure you snap a selfie with 'Sweetheart' - the stuffed Saltwater croc! Pun intended.

With all these cheap as chips things to do in the Territory, you’ve got more dosh in your pocket to buy the important things… like tickets to BASS!
