History

Established in 2003, People's Choice BASSINTHEGRASS is the NT's biggest and longest running music festival. Ask any local - BASS is a Darwin rite of passage, and in its 18 years has seen some of the country's biggest acts perform to sold out crowds. In 2019, the festival moved to a bigger, brand new seaside location at Mindil Beach (famous for its stellar sunsets) and hasn't looked back since.

Minister's Message

People's Choice BASSINTHEGRASS is a much-loved highlight on the Northern Territory’s calendar of events, combining the best in Australian music with one of Darwin’s most iconic locations, Mindil Beach.

The Northern Territory Government stages events like People's Choice BASSINTHEGRASS so Territorians get to enjoy Australia’s biggest names in music in their own backyard, but also to bring more visitors to the Territory, support local businesses and amp up our vibrant community.

Since last year, we’ve put more money into BASS to cement its reputation as a must-do event on Australia’s music calendar.  2019 smashed previous records with 10,000 people enjoying all the action on two stages against a beautiful tropical backdrop. 2020 is going to be even bigger and better.

I hope you enjoy this year’s People's Choice BASSINTHEGRASS, along with everything else Darwin and the Northern Territory has to offer during this wonderful time of year in the Top End.

Lauren Moss, Minister for Tourism, Sport & Culture
