Message from the Chief Minister

BASSINTHEGRASS is far more than an 11 hour music festival in the heart of Darwin: it’s an event that really tells it like it is about living in the Top End.

It’s about having a great time with your friends in the best part of the country.

Since its inception in 2003, BASSINTHEGRASS has hosted some of Australia’s finest bands, and has chief_minister.gifalso been the launching pad for some of the Territory’s best local bands.

2007 saw a sell out crowd, with more than 7500 festival goers.

And in 2008, the excitement is set to continue. As we confirm bands that are attending, we’ll keep you in touch in the local media as well as on this website.

We look forward to seeing you again this year: 24 May at the Amphitheatre.

And remember … BASSINTHEGRASS 2008 is far more than an 11 hour music festival!

The Hon. Paul Henderson MLA
Chief Minister, Northern Territory, Australia

2007 BASSINTHEGRASS

Last years festival was a SELLOUT. The playlist which featured Australia's Jet, Eskimo Joe and Hilltop Hoods together with a strong support lineup of other national and local bands received an overwhelming and energised response from the community. The concert went to a new level of music entertainment in this part of the world.  There is absolutely no doubt that this quality event is now firmly established on the Darwin's dry season calendar.

The Northern Territory's first BASSINTHEGRASS concerts were held in Alice Springs at the Convention Centre on Friday 11 July 2003 and in Darwin at the Amphitheatre on Saturday 12 July 2003.

BASSINTHEGRASS has now become the adopted name for the event in Darwin while the event in Alice Springs is now known as BASSINTHEDUST.

Both concerts have grown and are now widely anticipated by the youth of the Northern Territory, providing enjoyable entertainment to all age groups ranging from pre teens to 35 and beyond.
